My son and I were able to have a "sneak peak" of the movie Snowmen last week.
It's about three unlikely heroes and the winter that changed their lives. After a surprising discovery in the snow, the best friends hatch a plan to be remembered forever by setting a Guinness World Records title. Along the way, the trio battle schoolyard bullies, unite their community, and discover that, while fame may be fleeting, true friendship lasts forever.
What will your legacy be? What will you do today that says “I was here” tomorrow? How do you communicate what you value most? Snowmen prompts audiences of all ages to ask these life-defining questions, while affirming that it’s not what you do that matters as much as how you do it.
This is definitely a movie the whole family will enjoy. There are moments of great humor and childhood fun. Snowmen is based on a true story, but the facts have been changed. The director, Robert Kirbyson (Red Line), states the original script was depressing and tragic, and he wanted the story to reflect the hope he had as a child.

There are a couple of well known actors in the film. Christoper Lloyd (Back to the Future 1-3) appears as a kindly wise figure who explains some important details about life to the boys. Ray Liotta (Wild Hogs), also an executive producer of the film, and Doug E. Doug (Shark Tale) play fathers to two of the boys. One father a flamboyant, disconnected car salesman, and the other a Jamaican trying to adjust to a cold, Colorado winter.
Although reminiscent of another snowman movie from 1998, Snowmen is a wonderful story for a new generation. My son has already requested to see it again. He particularly liked the boyish antics of the three friends. In my opinion, Snowmen is a must-see family-friendly movie for the 2011 winter season.
Snowmen opens in select theaters October 21, 2011, and has received the following accolades:
